How this generation came about, what made it different and how the selected coupe fits into the family.
G87 is the second M2, built at San Luis Potosí on the rear-drive 2 Series Coupé architecture. Its S58 twin-turbo inline-six, axle hardware and electronic setup are closely related to G80/G82, but the shorter wheelbase and M2-specific body give it a separate chassis identity.
The 2023 launch car combined rear-wheel drive with either a six-speed manual or eight-speed M Steptronic. Output rose for the 2025 model update; BMW subsequently announced an M2 CS and, in June 2026, an M xDrive derivative for late-summer launch, each requiring its own production and market status.
G87 figures are time-sensitive: launch, updated, CS and xDrive versions do not share output, torque, weight or driven wheels. Announced models must remain labelled as such until series production and market homologation are confirmed for the relevant region.
